Gomae (Japanese Spinach Salad)

Ingredients :

Fresh Spinach, washed – 450g
Sesame Seeds – 4 Tablesponns
Soy Sauce – 1.5 Tablespoons
Cooking Sake – 2 Tablespoons
Suribachi Pestle and Mortar
Sugar (optional) – 2 Tablespoons Optional Items.

How to Make

Boil the spinach in a large pot of water for about 1 to 2 minutes or until the spinach has turned a rich green. Drain the spinach from the boiling pot and soak it in cold water until cool. Drain and lightly squeeze the spinach to remove any excess water. Cut the spinach into about 5-6cm lengths and set aside. Place sesame seeds in a blender or food processor and grind until powdery. Or for those of you who would like to try some Japanese tradition, we have these mini suribachi pestle and mortars available online to grind the seeds. Place sesame seeds in and grind until the seeds are powdery. Add the (optional) sugar and mix well.
